The "production committee" system is killing creativity
It’s no secret that the current industry model is reaching a breaking point. We’re seeing more delays and "recap episodes" than ever before. My theory? The oversaturation of seasonal isekai is draining the talent pool from experimental projects.
Here is what’s happening:
-
Lower budgets per project due to quantity over quality.
-
Burnout of key animators moving to freelance too early.
-
Safe bets: Producers are terrified of anything that isn't a proven light novel hit.
We are basically in a "bubble" similar to the late 90s. If we don't move towards a more sustainable direct-to-consumer model (like some studios are trying with crowdfunding), we might see a massive crash in the next 5 years.
What do you guys think? Are we heading towards a creative collapse or just a transition phase?
